| | Super Lawyers is a lot like "Who's Who Among High School Students" and is nothing more that a marketing ploy. What suddenly made me a "Rising Star" at age 38 and 15 years of practice? The designation -- misleading as it is -- entices prospective clients who don't know any better. Lawyers can feed their egos with $300 plaques. I think you can get in trouble with the bar if you tout this designation. My city's newspaper also has something called "Best of the Bar," that is a shameless mutual-nomination farce. I have witnessed lawyers frantically filling out multiple "nomination" forms, then copying-in all those nominees and including a blank nomination form in the hope of getting a reciprocal nod. Such silliness. How about spending your time on ... hmmm ... your clients? | | | |
